There were some down moments of NYCC.<\/p>\n

1. The line to get in Friday morning.\u00a0 Yeah, I\u2019m sure it was better than last year (we got there around 5 last year), but seriously.<\/p>\n

People were divided into three lines with colored entrances.\u00a0 The blue entrance was for VIP\/pro\/press passes.\u00a0 The green entrance for anyone who already had a badge, and the yellow entrance for anyone who needed to buy\/pick up a badge.\u00a0 Sounds pretty straight forward, right? Not so much.<\/p>\n

I would hazard a guess that probably 3\/4 of everyone there had to go in through the green entrance.\u00a0 I do seem to recall that the 4 day\/VIP passes didn\u2019t sell out.\u00a0 When Rob and I got to Javits on Friday morning, we started on 39th<\/sup> Street, the street closest to the green entrance.\u00a0 And we followed the signs.\u00a0 Down 39th<\/sup>.\u00a0 Around the corner to 12th<\/sup> Ave and down the long block to 34th<\/sup> Street.\u00a0 Around that corner and up 34th<\/sup> almost to the corner of 11th<\/sup> Ave (yeah, not exactly a short distance-especially with really high humidity).\u00a0 The volunteers holding the signs\u00a0 just said to keep going.\u00a0 We were almost to 11th<\/sup> Ave before anyone said anything but keep going.\u00a0 And that guy said-\u201cGo in the blue entrance.\u00a0 Today only.\u201d<\/p>\n

Seriously?\u00a0 We walked almost completely around the building because there didn\u2019t seem to be any communication.\u00a0 Yeah, okay, fine.\u00a0 It took about 45 min to get in.\u00a0 Though I could be wrong; it could\u2019ve taken longer.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0 There was a panel I\u2019d hoped to go to at 10:45 Friday morning.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t really expect to make it, not with waiting in line, but with the fiasco of the line?\u00a0 No way was it possible.\u00a0 And WTH did they have a panel at 10:45 AM?\u00a0 Who\u2019s actually there aside from the VIP\/pro\/press and the people who got in line at the asscrack of dawn?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I know it\u2019s not likely to happen, but the line situation could possibly be somewhat fixed if they were to separate the lines more than they already had\u2014multiple and single day passes.\u00a0 That might help a slight bit.\u00a0 And don\u2019t schedule panels until a time when people are likely to actually be in the building.<\/p>\n

Sunday morning line<\/p><\/div>\n

3.\u00a0 The cattle herding line on Sunday.\u00a0 I understand there are safety concerns.\u00a0 But again, separate lines\u2014don\u2019t lump me in with everyone who\u2019s picking up their badges for the day.\u00a0 Or at least try to make sure the AC is working better.<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0 I had really hoped to be able to go to see Return of the King<\/em> at Radio City with a full symphony.\u00a0 Rob and I saw Two Towers<\/em> last year, and I\u2019d so looked forward to that.\u00a0 But that got delayed to next year.\u00a0 There\u2019s a traveling concert\/showing for Fellowship of the Ring<\/em>, which I\u2019d also like to see, but as far as I know, that won\u2019t be making it to the East coast.<\/p>\n

Everything else that wasn\u2019t great\u2014I expect not to enjoy that stuff at a convention, especially one as crowded as NYCC.\u00a0 People push and shove, block vendor tables, and they\u2019re generally asses.\u00a0 I don\u2019t expect that to change, though sometimes there are those decent people who have manners.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
