{"id":228,"date":"2012-07-15T20:31:26","date_gmt":"2012-07-16T01:31:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.stellamortis.com\/?p=228"},"modified":"2012-07-15T20:42:10","modified_gmt":"2012-07-16T01:42:10","slug":"finding-my-process","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.stellamortis.com\/?p=228","title":{"rendered":"Finding my process"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I started the year with the intention of finishing a draft of my novel.\u00a0 I wrote a post on finding time to write, well, <a title=\"Excuses\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.stellamortis.com\/?p=141\">making excuses<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It took me a few months to get out of my own way.<\/p>\n<p>I made excuses about not having enough time, but I had plenty.<\/p>\n<p>What I lacked, above everything, was organization.<\/p>\n<p>I fixed this in small steps.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>I moved my weekly whiteboard into the bedroom, where I would see it every morning and evening.<a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blog.stellamortis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/IMG_1020.jpg?ssl=1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-232\" title=\"whiteboard\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blog.stellamortis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/IMG_1020.jpg?resize=224%2C300&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blog.stellamortis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/IMG_1020.jpg?w=224&amp;ssl=1 224w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blog.stellamortis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/IMG_1020.jpg?w=764&amp;ssl=1 764w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blog.stellamortis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/IMG_1020.jpg?w=1936&amp;ssl=1 1936w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blog.stellamortis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/IMG_1020.jpg?w=1300&amp;ssl=1 1300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 224px) 100vw, 224px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>I set a daily goal.\u00a0 500 a day, Monday through Friday.\u00a0 Or 2500 a week.<\/li>\n<li>I write for 30 minutes during my lunch break.<\/li>\n<li>The words get typed up every evening.<\/li>\n<li>Word count gets marked on the whiteboard.\u00a0 If I fall short, I subtract the word count from 500 and put up that number.\u00a0 If I go over, I write by how much.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p>With this routine, I wrote around 50,000 in about three months.<\/p>\n<p>Now I\u2019m going to try the same approach with exercise, and see how it works.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I started the year with the intention of finishing a draft of my novel.\u00a0 I wrote a post on finding time to write, well, making excuses.
