What initially got me most excited for NYCC wasn\u2019t anything about the con.\u00a0 It was finding out a friend (Jessa\/@chichenpizza<\/a>\/Kali) from the Jim Butcher forums<\/a> would be going.<\/p>\n

Actually, her tweet about Yotel was what made me look into it.\u00a0 Very glad, too, that place was nice.<\/p>\n

Rob and I met her Friday morning, and she bought us drinks at Starbucks.\u00a0 Rob wanted to repay her, but she wouldn\u2019t take the money.\u00a0 We walked together to Javits, and then we separated for lines\u2014she had a VIP pass.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, we never managed to meet up with her again\u2014Jessa went to several panels-VIP access-and Saturday night through Sunday, she ended up sick and staying at the hotel.\u00a0 But as she\u2019s said since, it adds to the \u201cMYStery\u201d since so few people saw her. \u00a0And I got no pictures of her, either.<\/p>\n

We also met up with Priscilla and Garrett for dinner.\u00a0 Pam (@jeditigger<\/a>) got a room at the hotel for the night and crashed.\u00a0 Cons can take a lot out of you.<\/p>\n

Saturday was all about friends. (And free books, but that\u2019s another thing)\u00a0 Like I\u2019d said before, Rob dressed up as Elwood blues, and one of the first friends we met up with was Shecky (Richard, but no one calls him that but his wife)-he was dressed up as Jake.\u00a0 The costumes had been planned pretty quickly, maybe three weeks before.<\/p>\n

Story behind those\u2014Rob and I had gone into the city to meet people for bowling.\u00a0 We sat outside a while-too late to go to the Intrepid Museum\u2014and we somehow got onto the topic of The Blues Brothers\u00a0 Overheard a song, or something.\u00a0 And I told Rob that he and Shecky\u00a0 should go to NYCC as the Blues Brothers cause they fit.\u00a0 Well, Rob told Shecky when we got to the bowling alley, and it must\u2019ve been a great idea because at one point the place played \u201cThink\u201d (the Aretha Franklin song).<\/p>\n

They looked pretty good, too, though I kept forgetting to write the letters on Rob\u2019s hands.\u00a0 I don\u2019t think they managed to walk too far on the show floor before getting stopped for pictures.
\nOne of the best was at the DK booth.\u00a0 There were three stormtroopers, and they wanted a picture with Rob and Shecky.\u00a0 One kept saying \u201cI\u2019m a soul man\u201d over and over in a sing-song voice.\u00a0 At one point, he said, \u201cSorry, that\u2019s the only line I know.\u00a0 I\u2019m a soul man.\u201d<\/p>\n

They were there when we came back later for a signing.\u00a0 That was when we met up with Priscilla(wearing the purple wig) and Garrett, and they saw that Shecky had shaved.\u00a0 Once together, we went outside and had a bit to eat, then back inside for the military sci-fi panel followed by a signing by the authors.<\/p>\n

Saturday night we all met up at the Irish Rogue, along with several other Jim Butcher fans.\u00a0 The Rogue\u2019s where we had the fan dinner last year, so we knew it\u2019d be a nice place, and that the food and drinks were good.\u00a0 And decently priced for NYC.\u00a0 Rob and Shecky pulled out their Warden cloaks for the finishing touch to their costumes. \u00a0I’m thinking I should put up another post just for that, and to show off the pictures.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, we had tentative plans to meet up with Priscilla, Pam, and Garrett, but they\u2019d decided to have a lazy day.<\/p>\n

That was okay.\u00a0 We ended up spending almost the entire day with Kiera and her friend Robin.\u00a0 They look cute together, though I somehow didn’t get a picture of them. \u00a0I did, however, get a picture of her and Ben together when we saw him. \u00a0Kiera made bracelets for me and Rob, and she gave them to us then.\u00a0 Kiera had mostly stayed away from picking up any books, until she walked around with us.\u00a0 I think she ended up with more books than we got that day. \u00a0We stayed until around 5ish, and then said our goodbyes to head to the hotel.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
